Die Stadt der Engel

Ich hörte mal „Bangkok: you either love it or hate it!“.

Also ich bin großer Fan der Hauptstadt Thailand, der Dreh.- und Angelpunkt jeder Thailandreise sein sollte. Eine quirlige 15 Mio. Einwohner Metropole, bei ca. 75 % Luftfeuchtigkeit, 30 °C Hitze und dem Geruch von Garküchen mit einer Mischung von Abgasen ist halt auch nicht für jeden was. Doch am Abend, nach einer langen Sightseeingtour, in einer Rooftop-Bar zu sitzen und die Happy-Hour-Cocktail Angebote von A – Z durchzuprobieren, mit Blick auf die tolle Skyline, hat schon seinen Reiz.

Die Altstadt ist ein verwinkeltes Labyrinth aus engen Gassen, vielen Geschäften und Tempeln, die faszinierend und undurchschaubar auf einen wirken. Doch abseits der Hochhäuser, Shoppingmalls und dem großen Verkehrschaos fühlt man sich gleich einige Jahre in die Vergangenheit zurückversetzt und kann nur erahnen, wie früher das rege Handelstreiben ausgesehen haben mag.

5. Anreise & Verkehrsmittel

Die Anreise ist mit verschiedenen Airlines direkt oder mit Zwischenstopp nach Bangkok (BKK) möglich. Vom Flughafen gelangt man mit unzähligen Taxi Anbietern um ca. € 15 in die Innenstadt. Mein Tipp: Nehmt den Schnellzug „Airport Air Link“, dieser fährt ca. alle 15 Minuten direkt vom Flughafen in die City. Die Kosten belaufen sich hierfür bei ca. € 0,40 – € 1,20 pro Strecke, vom Preis und der Schnelligkeit also unschlagbar.

In Bangkok selbst ist die Fahrt mit den Öffis problemlos möglich. Es gibt hier einige tolle Öffi-Apps, die mir immer gute Dienste geleistet haben. Ob mit dem Sky Train (BTS), Metro (MRT), Taxi, Tuk Tuk oder auf der Wasserstraße per Boot, man kommt hier überall problemlos ans Ziel.

4. Unterkunft

Die Hotels am Ufer des Chao Praya Rivers sind vor allem wegen ihrer beindruckenden Aussicht ein echtes Highlight. Wer jedoch Wert auf eine gute Anbindung zum öffentlichen Verkehrsnetz legt, sollte ein Zimmer in der Gegend um Sukhumvit, Siam oder Asok buchen. Alternativ sind die Stadtteile Sathorn und Silom gute Ausgangspunkte, die ebenfalls durch tolle Hotels überzeugen. Mein Tipp: Unterkunft mit Roof Top-Pool wählen! Es gibt kein besseres Gefühl, als nach einem langen heißen Sightseeing Tag in den Pool zu hüpfen und die glitzernden Lichter der Nacht mit einem guten, kühlen Drink zu genießen. Das ist Lebensfreude pur, glaubt mir!

3. Restaurant

Wer traditionelles Essen sucht, kommt an den unzähligen Garküchen und Food Halls dieser Stadt nicht vorbei. Bangkok ist für mich immer wieder ein kulinarisches Highlight. Von guten Seafood Currys bis zum Pat Thai – hier findet einfach jeder etwas für seinen Geschmack. Mein Tipp: Das „Bangrak-Food-Center“ nahe der Saphan Taksin MRT Station. Hier kann man um ca. € 0,40 bis € 3,00 viele leckere, frisch zubereitete Speisen ganz leger auf Plastiksesseln genießen. Noch ein Tipp für günstige Thai Küche ist der Food-Court im Terminal 21 Shopping Center. Hier findest du im 5. Stock eine unglaubliche Auswahl an leckerem Essen. Ein Besuch des Foodcourts im Siam Paragon Shopping Center im Untergeschoss kann zwecks der großen Auswahl überfordernd werden, aber ein MUSS bei jeder Bangkokreise. Natürlich auch alle Garküchen an den Straßen gehören dazu 🙂

2. Sightseeing & Ausflüge:

Wat Phra Kaeo – Tempel des Smaragd-Buddhas: Die große Tempelanlage steht am Gelände des Königspalasts und beherbergt den berühmten 66 cm hohen Smaragd-Buddha. Leider ist diese Tempelanlage viel zu überlaufen und man muss sich hier durch die großen Reisegruppen zwängen. Eintritt mit € 11 ist auch etwas überteuert.

Wat Pho – Tempel des liegenden Buddhas: Hier kann die 46 Meter lange und 15 Meter hohe liegende Buddha Statue besichtigt werden. Nicht nur der Buddha, sondern auch die Tempelanlage rund herum ist wirklich sehr schön und empfehlenswert. Eintritt liegt bei etwa € 3.

Mein Tipp: Seht euch die Tempel am späten Nachmittag/Abend an! Hier sind die meisten Reisegruppen schon durchgeschleust worden und die Hitze ist auch um einiges erträglicher.

Tipps abseits der Massen:
  • Wat Arun – Tempel der Morgenröte: Ist bei Sonnenaufgang oder Untergang durch seine Farbspiegelung wirklich einmalig und ein toller Fotospot. Da dieser am anderen Ufer des Flusses liegt, benötigt ihr ein Wassertaxi, das ein paar Cent kostet. Eintritt umgerechnet etwa € 1,50.
  • Wat Traimit – Tempel des Goldenen Buddha: Liegt gegenüber des Hauptbahnhofes Hua Lamphong und kann gut mit einem Besuch in China Town kombiniert werden. Fun Fact: Bis in die 1950er Jahre hatte man keine Ahnung, dass sich hinter der unscheinbaren Gipsstatue pures Gold verbarg! Nur durch einen Fehler bei den Bauarbeiten fiel der Buddha zu Boden und zum Vorschein kam der 5,5 t schwere Goldene Buddah im Wert von ca. 250 Mio. USD. Eintritt umgerechnet etwa € 1,50.
  • Wat Saket – Tempel des Goldenen Berges: Steht im alten Teil Bangkoks auf einem kleinen Plateau und ist über unzählige Treppen ereichbar. Von oben bietet dieser eine geniale Aussicht über die Stadt. Eintrittsgebühr von umgerechnet ca. € 1,50.

Fahrt durch die Klongs: Sollte auf jeder To-Do-Liste stehen! Am besten entlang des Chao Prayas spazieren und nach Longtailbooten Ausschau halten. Die etwas entspanntere Variante wäre einen Ausflug ab dem Hotel zu buchen, hier ist alles schon vororganisiert, dafür auch um einiges teurer. Vorbei am Ufer an denen die Top-Hotels Bangkoks stehen, bis hinein in die kleinsten Kanäle, wo sich die etwas ärmere Gesellschaft Bangkoks niedergelassen hat.

China Town: Hier bekommt man das Gefühl, wie die Stadt noch vor ca. 50 Jahren ausgesehen hat. Daher ist ein Besuch in diesem Viertel ein tolles Erlebnis. Der traditionelle chinesische Markt liegt in der in einer Seitenstraße der Yaowarat Road. Am Ende der Marktstraße kommt man zum Wat Mangkon Kamalawat – Tempel der Drachenblume, der zu den berühmtesten und größten chinesischen Tempeln Thailands zählt. Eintritt ist hier frei.

Auf der Hauptstraße werden jeden Abend unzählige Garküchen aufgebaut und zählt auf jeden Fall zu den „Must See“ für die „Foodies“ unter euch.

In Gegensatz zum „Mae Klong Railway Market“ oder zu den schwimmenden Märkten, ist der nahegelegen Blumenmarkt Pak Khlong Talat und die darum liegenden Märkte im Wand Burapha Viertel sehr empfehlenswert. Diese sind nicht so überlaufen bzw. noch sehr authentisch.

Wenn ihr mal keinen Bock auf Sightseeing habt, habe ich hier ein paar Tipps für euch:

  • Thai Massage: In Bangkok findest du an jeder Ecke und Straße einen Massagesalon. Nach so viel herumlaufen, ist das genau das Richtige.
  • Thai Kochkurs: Macht viel Spaß und ihr habt Zuhause kein Problem mehr, authentische Thai-Speisen zuzubereiten!
  • Radfahren: Sehr gut eignet sich hierfür Phra Pradaeng die „Grüne Lunge Bangkoks“. Abseits der lauten Großstadt findet man hier etwas Ruhe zum Entspannen. Dort gibt es auch einen Fahrradverleih, einige Cafés und viel frische Luft zum Durchatmen. Einfach mit dem Taxi bis zum Klong Toei Pier fahren, danach mit dem Longtail-Boat um ein paar Cent übersetzen und bei M-BIKE ein Fahrrad um etwa EUR 3,00 für den ganzen Tag ausleihen. Mein Tipp: Sonnen- und Mückenschutz nicht vergessen. Wir hatten dazu abseits der beschriebenen Wege ein Problem mit aggressiven Hunden, daher nur auf den gekennzeichneten Wege fahren. Hier sind zwar auch einige freilaufende Hunde unterwegs, die sind aber alle harmlos, da diese an Radtouristen gewöhnt sind.

    • Geführte Food-Tour: Man besucht hier mit einem Guide verschieden Garküchen, Märkte und Restaurants, in die man sich ansonsten nie hin verirrt. Eine tolle Möglichkeit neue Früchte, Gemüse und vor allem Geschmäcker kennenzulernen.
    • Lumphini Park: Für einen kleinen Spaziergang oder einfach zum entspannen im grünen, eignet sich der zentral gelegene Stadtpark.

    • Meine allerliebste Beschäftigung: Ohne Plan und Ziel durch die Stadt zu spazieren. Man entdeckt so viele versteckte schöne Orte abseits der überlaufenen Touri Hotspots und macht auch Bekanntschaften mit netten Menschen.

    Ich muss ehrlich sein, in Bangkok war bei mir die Shopping Lust noch nie wirklich groß. Aber wer gerne in Shoppingcenter gehen möchte, ist im Stadtteil Siam auf jeden Fall richtig. Hier reihen sich die Einkaufspaläste nebeneinander. Das „MBK Shopping-Center“ hebt sich ein wenig von den restlichen riesigen Shoppingmalls ab und ist daher mein Favorit. Auf 7 Ebenden gibt es so gut wie alles zu eher günstigen Preisen. Die Preise hier sind auch fast immer verhandelbar. Im 6. Stock gibt es noch dazu eine große Auswahl an preiswerten Garküchen und Restaurants.

    Nette Stände mit Schmuck, Kleidung und viel an frisch gekochten Essen finden man am neuen „Jodd Fairs Market“. Hier ist jeden Abend einiges los und es macht wirklich Spaß durch die Stände zu schlendern.
