Ein echter Inseltraum und zugleich ein Beispiel für „Overtourism“

Meine Meinung ist sehr gespalten, einerseits ist es das wahrgewordene Inselparadies, andererseits sieht man hier gut, dass unkontrollierter Massentourismus die wunderschöne Umwelt und den Inselzauber zerstört.

Die Hauptinsel Koh Phi Phi Don wird täglich von einer Touristenmenge um die Mittagszeit überströmt und die Restaurants am Tonsai Beach sind dann komplett überfüllt. Das liegt daran, dass jedes Ausflugsboot von Krabi und Phuket die Gäste hierher zum Lunch bringt.

Ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung: Seit Jahren ist die berühmte Maya Bay auf Koh Phi Phi Leh (Film „The Beach“) immer wieder mal für Touristen gesperrt. Langsam erholen sich die totgetrampelten Korallen und auch die ersten Riffhaie kehren wieder zurück. Trotz der negativen Entwicklung, handelt es sich noch um eine wunderschöne Insel in einer atemberaubenden Umgebung.

Anreise & Verkehrsmittel

Mit der Fähre von Phuket und Krabi kommt man am Pier auf Koh Phi Phi Don an. Von hier aus erreicht man auf der Autofreien Insel zu Fuß oder mit dem Longtailboot die gewünschte Unterkunft.

Sightseeing & Ausflüge

  • Bootsausflug: Empfehlenswert ist es, sich eine Schnorchelausrüstung und ein Longtailboot für einen Tag zu chartern. Die Fahrt rund um Koh Phi Phi Don und weiter nach Koh Phi Phi Leh ist jeden Cent wert. Die Longtail Fahrer wissen genau, wo es die besten Schnorchel-Hotspots gibt und wo ihr das beste Foto bekommt. Mein Tipp: Genügend Sonnenschutz und evtl. Langarmshirt mitnehmen. Wasser und Snacks nicht vergessen, denkt dabei auch an euren Fahrer, der freut sich darüber bestimmt genau so viel wie unserer damals. Wenn ihr euch Touris mit wenig Verstand ersparen wollt: Lasst den Monkey Beach aus. Man sieht hier nur Affen, die im Dreck spielen und kann beobachten, wie diese von Touristen genervt werden, um ein „tolles“ Foto zu bekommen.

  • View Point: Der Aufstieg zum View Point lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Der Viewpoint Nr. 2 ist der verspricht die beste Aussicht über die wunderschöne Insel. Eintritt hierfür liegt bei ca. € 0,80. Es gibt hier auch einen kleine Shop, um sich ein kühles Getränk zu kaufen. Mein Tipp: Entweder bald früh morgens oder gegen späten nachmittags oder abends ist der Aufstieg am angenehmsten.

Nui Beach: Am Loh Dalum Beach (Partystrand) ein Kanu für mehrere Stunden mieten und zum Nui Beach patteln. Hier erwartet einem eine Traumbucht zum sonnen und schnorcheln. Nicht vergessen genügend Wasser, Snacks, Sonnenschutz und die Schnorchelausrüstung einzupacken. Die gemütliche Variante wäre mit dem Longtailboot hinzufahren.

Mein Tipp: Vom Nui Beach kann man zu Fuß zur Loh Lana Bay in wenigen Minuten wandern. Bei Flut muss man allerdings durch das Wasser zum Strand gehen oder über den spitzen Felsen vorsichtig hin spazieren. Von der nicht so schönen Lana Bay kommt man in ca. 10 Gehminuten zur Loh Ba Kao Bay an dem das schöne SAII Phi Phi Island Village Hotel liegt. Der Strand ist dort sehr schön und das hinterliegende Village lädt auf ein Mittagessen ein.

Unterbringung

Die meisten Unterkünfte liegen auf der schmalen Landzunge und deren Umgebung. Da am Abend der östliche Strand Loh Dalum Beach zur Partymeile wird, empfehle ich die Unterkunft abseits dieses Strands zu wählen, da es bis spät in die Nacht sehr laut werden kann. Für Reisende, die keinen großen Luxus benötigen, aber zentral und ruhig wohnen möchten, kann ich das Koh Phi Phi Sand Sea View Resort empfehlen. Wer zentral, günstig und auch modern wohnen möchte geht eine klare Empfehlung an das P2 Wood Loft und das Blu Monkey. Durch die zentrale Lage muss man aber mit Lärm rechnen. Für Luxus- und Ruhesuchende ist das SAII Phi Phi Village (nur per Boot erreichbar)perfekt. Hier gibt es vor dem Hotel ein paar nette Lokale und Restaurants, diese sind aber auch spürbar teurer als im Hauptort.

Restaurant & Shopping

Gut und günstiges Thai Food kann man in der Foodhall speisen – klare Empfehlung ist das Restaurant Pa-Noi Thai Food. Diese liegt in der Nähe des Ton Sai Piers uns ist leicht an seinem großen, weißen Dach unter dem sich mehrere Stände aneinanderreihen erkennbar. Aber auch von Hipsterlokal mit tollen veganen Bowls bis hin zu Burger, Pommes, Pizza und Co. gibt es hier eine Vielzahl an Restaurants.
