Ursprüngliche Insel mit Wohlfühlfaktor

Diese kleine noch ursprüngliche und vom Massentourismus verschonte Insel, eignet sich bestens für ein paar Tage Tiefenentspannung. Am Pier angekommen verspürt man sofort Eines und zwar – Wohlbefinden! Die Strände und Straßen der Insel sind sehr ruhig und die Leute hier noch freundlicher als man es sonst schon gewohnt ist im „Land des Lächelns“!

Anreise & Verkehrsmittel

Die Insel ist entweder über den Flughafen Trat oder per Bus-/Privattransfer von Bangkok aus problemlos erreichbar. Danach setzt man mit der Fähre in etwa einer Stunde auf die Insel über. Angekommen am Pier wird man vom Transportservice der gebuchten Unterkunft empfangen. Auf der Insel selbst benötigt man unbedingt ein Moped oder ein Fahrrad, da man ansonsten ganz schwer von A nach B kommt. Beides könnt ihr fast an jeder Ecke für 200 – 300 THB ausleihen.

Die Insel eignet sich bestens zum Inselhüpfen, denn die Bootsverbindungen zwischen Koh Kood – Koh Mak – Koh Chang sind mit den Schnellboten oder dem etwas langsamen dafür günstigeren „Bang Bao Boat“ sehr gut ausgebaut.

Strände & Ausflüge

  • Ao Suan Yai Beach: Wie ich finde der schönste Strand der Insel. Ein heller, palmengesäumter flachabfallender Traumstrand an dem sich auch ein paar tolle Resorts befinden. Hierbei handelt es sich um den Hauptstrand der Insel auf dem allerdings nur die Hotelrestaurants, ein kleiner Supermarkt und ein Infopoint liegen.

  • Ao Kao Beach: Der Strand ist nicht überzeugend, da einige Felsen im Wasser sind, die bei Flut nicht gut ersichtlich sind. Dafür gibt es hier ein paar tolle Beachbars und auf der dahinterliegenden Straße einige Restaurants, Supermärkte eine Apotheke und ein Massagesalon.

Aufgepasst! Viele Strände verschwinden bei Flut komplett. Leider konnte ich dadurch nicht alle Strände besichtigen.

Was ich komplett unterschätzt habe, sind die bissigen Sandfliegen hier auf der Insel! Gegen diese hilft nur lange Kleidung oder sich die Haut mit Kokosöl einzureiben. Die Bisse jucken tagelang und schwellen an, wenn man dem Juckreiz nicht widerstehen kann und zu kratzen beginnt. Danach hilft nur mehr ein Besuch beim Arzt.

Unterbringung

Entlang des Ao Kao Beach erreicht man zu Fuß alles was man so benötigt, daher empfehle ich diese Gegend der Insel. Mein Tipp: Das „by The Sea Koh Mak“. Ein kleines Boutique Hotel mit modernen Zimmern, einem großen Pool und direkter Lage am Strand. Hier habt ihr auch die größte Auswahl an Restaurants und Bars der Insel.

Wer es noch etwas ruhiger und authentischer möchte, dem kann ich das „Happy Days Resort“ empfehlen. Etwas teurer dafür direkt am Traumstrand gelegen sind die Bungalows des „Koh Mak Resort„.

Restaurant & Shopping

Zum Shoppen gibt es hier keine große Auswahl. Aber das braucht man auf diesem kleinen Inselparadies auch nicht! Eine Apotheke und ein paar kleine Supermärkte findet man entlang der Straße beim Ao Kao Beach.

Gute Thai Küche zu normalen Preisen bekommt man im „Food Garden @ KohMak“ und „Kon Gin Sen“. Westliche Küche und Drinks bekommt man im Beachrestaurant „By The Sea Koh Mak“. Mein Tipp: Eine günstige Empfehlung in uriger Umgebung ist das „Pimjai Thaifood“. Die Besitzerin ist sehr nett und kocht authentisch mit frischen Zutaten.
