Wichtig! Wenn man die Insel auf eigen Faust erkunden und in Hotels nächtigen möchte, empfehle ich die Unterkünfte vorab zu buchen. Überhaupt in den Monaten zwischen Juni und September kann es leicht sein, dass der Großteil der Hotels ausgebucht sind.

- Reiseapotheke: Hier reicht die übliche Reiseapotheke, die ihr auch auf Kurzreisen einpackt 😉 In den größeren Orten gibt es auch Apotheken und gute medizinische Versorgung.
- Reisezeit: Island kann ganzjährig bereist werden. Allerdings ist eine Umrundung auf der Ringstraße im Winter oft wegen hoher Schneelage nicht möglich. Ich selbst finde die Zeit zwischen März – Juni und September bis November am Besten. Hier sind weniger Touristen unterwegs und man hat eventuell das Glück die Nordlichter zu sehen.
- Reisedauer: Du kannst die Insel in nur 5 Tagen für einen kleinen Überblick bereisen. Hier wäre eine Kombi aus Golden-Circle und Reykjanes empfehlenswert. Oder auch länger für 2 – 3 Wochen. Hier eignet sich sehr gute die Route der Ringstraße, die einmal komplett um die Insel geht.
- Reiseart: Bleibt ganz euch überlassen. Ob auf eigen Faust mit dem Mietwagen oder in der Gruppe mit Guide, beide Varianten sind toll um die Insel zu entdecken.
- Kleidung: Warme Kleidung! Am besten im „Zwiebel-Look“, mehrere dünne Schichten machen mehr Sinn, als nur eine dicke. Auch wichtig sind gute Schuhe wie z.B. Wander- oder Trekkingschuhe.
- Essen auf Island: Auf dieser Insel wird hauptsächlich Fisch und Lamm serviert. Man bekommt aber auch überall internationales Essen. In der Früh wird oft frischer Skyr mit Früchten und Nüssen serviert.
- Geld: Es wird so gut wie überall die Bankomatkarte und Kreditkarte akzeptiert. Kalkuliere aber mit mehr Reisebudget ein als bei anderen Reisezielen. Die zusätzlichen Kosten für Essen und Getränke sind doch deutlich höher als wie wir es von uns hier in Mitteleuropa gewöhnt sind.
- Sprache: Isländisch ist eine Sprache die uns deutschsprachigen eher etwas schwär fällt zu lernen. Aber das ist gar kein Problem, dann fast jeder Isländer spricht auch ein sehr gutes Englisch.
- Fahrerlaubnis: Mit einem B-Führerschein kann man überall einen Mietwagen anmieten. Die Kosten hierfür sind aber überdurchschnittlich teuer.
- Versicherung: Verreist nie ohne guten Reiseschutz, ich spreche aus Erfahrung. Es können hier horrende Kosten auf euch zukommen, falls etwas mal etwas passiert. Am besten eine ohne Selbstbehalt!
- Sicherheit: Es ist ein komplett sicheres Land. man kann sich hier problemlos zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit frei bewegen ohne ein komisches Gefühl dabei zu haben.
- Notfall: Notfall: Registriert euch kostenlos vor Abreise hier beim Außenministerium, damit in einem Notfall wie z. B. politischen Unruhen und Naturkatastrophen Hilfe geleistet werden kann.
