Ein Abstecher ins Grüne
Die Stadt Kanchanaburi liegt in der gleichnamigen Provinz ca. 130 Km westlich von Bangkok. Diese erlangte durch Ihre traurige Vergangenheit und dessen Oscar gekrönte Verfilmung „Die Brücke am Kwai“ an Berühmtheit. Ich bin ganz ehrlich die Brücke ist… naja es ist halt eine Brücke, nicht wirklich das große Highlight. Wenn man sich aber ein wenig mit der Geschichte dieses Ortes auseinandersetzt, nimmt man alles etwas bewusster wahr. Der große Soldatenfriedhof erinnert tausenden Kriegsgefangene und Zwangsarbeiter, die während dem Bau der Zugverbindung ihr Leben verloren. Noch heute gibt es die historische Zugverbindung mit der sogenannten „Death Railway“ die von Bangkok bis nach Nam Tok fährt.
Anreise & Verkehrsmittel
Mit dem Bus oder Zug etwa drei Fahrtsunden westlich von Bangkok gelegen. Es gibt auch viele geführte 1 – 3 Tage Touren ab/bis Bangkok die vorab gebucht werden können.
Sightseeing & Ausflüge
Ich habe vor Abreise einen organisierten Ausflug ab/bis Bangkok über TUI gebucht. Ganz ohne Stress wird man in der Früh vom gebuchten Hotel in Bangkok abgeholt und mit einem Minivan nach Kanchanaburi Stadt gebracht. Am Weg dort hin, bekommt man vom Reiseleiter schon viele Informationen über Land und Leute und die Geschichte von Kanchanaburi. Nach Besichtigung des Soldatenfriedhofes und der Brücke am River Kwai geht es weiter bis zur außergewöhnlichen Unterkunft am River Kwai. Wer noch etwas mehr Action benötigt, kann noch den Dschungel-Hochseilklettergarten meistern und als grandioser Abschluss erwartete einem noch eine Seilrutsche über den See.
Unterbringung
Das wirkliche Highlight des Ausfluges sind eindeutig die Übernachtungen in den River Kwai Jungle Rafts. Ein Schwimmender Ruhepol abseits der Hektik, ganz ohne viel Schnick Schnack, Empfang und Elektrizität, versprechen eine einmalige und unvergessliche Erfahrung in der Natur. Die Unterkunft wird von einer in Thailand lebenden ethnischen Minderheit den „Mon“ betrieben, deren Dorf direkt im Dschungel hinter dem Flussufer liegt. Mein Tipp: Frag an der Rezeption nach, ob ein Rundgang durch das Dorf möglich ist. Hier kann man die Schule besuchen, Elefanten beobachten und auch das eine oder andere Souvenir ergattern.
Wer nicht auf etwas Luxus verzichten möchte, empfehle ich das nahe gelegene „Float House River Kwai“. Hier hat man fließend Strom, einen tollen Service und sehr schön ausgestattet Float-Houses.
