Grüne Hügel, helle Strände und einsame Buchten
Kho Kood (Koh Kut) ist mit einer Länge von 25 Km und einer Breite von 12 Km die fünft größte Insel des Landes. Im Jahr 2014 wurde die Insel von der Zeitung „The Guardian“ sogar zur „Thailands letzte unberührte Insel“ bezeichnet. Das Inselinnere besteht aus fast unberührtem Dschungel, währenddessen sich in den flacheren Gebieten im Westen der Insel viele Gummibaumplantagen und wunderschöne Strände befinden.
Obwohl Kho Kood in den letzten Jahren einen großen touristischen Aufschwung erlebt hat, ist diese trotzdem noch nicht überlaufen. Da die Insel ein beliebtes Wochenendziel der Thais ist, ist dann spürbar mehr los als unter der Woche.
Ich würde Koh Kood als die kleine Schwester von Koh Chang bezeichnen!
Anreise & Verkehrsmittel
Die Insel ist entweder über den Flughafen Trat oder per Bus-/Privattransfer von Bangkok aus problemlos erreichbar. Vom Leam Sok Pier übersetzt man mit der Fähre in etwa einer Stunde auf die Insel über. Ich selbst habe die günstigere Buskombination um EUR 26,00 gewählt. Um 5 Uhr morgens geht’s von Bangkok (Agentur Boonsiri nähe Khao San Road) ca. 5 Stunden in Richtung Trat zum Pier. Über die Buchungsplattform 12goasia.com bin ich bis dato immer gut und günstig gereist. Angekommen am Pier auf Kho Kood warten schon unzählige Sammeltaxis (im Fährticketpreis inkludiert) die die Gäste in die gebuchten Unterkünfte bringen. Auf der Insel selbst benötigt man unbedingt ein Moped, da man ansonsten ganz schwer von A nach B kommt.
Die Insel eignet sich bestens zum Inselhüpfen, denn die Bootsverbindungen zwischen Koh Kood – Koh Mak – Koh Chang sind sehr gut ausgebaut.
Unterbringung
Wer hochwertigen Luxus möchte ist im „Soneva Kiri“ bestens aufgehoben. Die Zimmerpreise für die beste Kategorie kosten bis zu EUR 10.500 die Nacht. Für das mittlere Reisebudget kann ich das „Peterpan Resort“ und das „Tinkerbell Resort“ empfehlen. Beide liegen an einem schönen Strand und ein paar Restaurants und Bars sind zu Fuß erreichbar. Für das etwas kleinere Reisebudget kann ich „The Lodge at Kho Kood“ empfehlen. Die Bungalows verfügen über eine Klimaanlage und sehr gemütliche Betten. Auch der Vermieter ist sehr hilfsbereit und setzt alle Wünsche der Gäste um.
Restaurant & Shopping
Zum Shoppen gibt es auf der Insel kaum Auswahl. Die Supermärkte sind sehr authentisch ohne nervige 7Eleven-Shops von denen es sowieso schon viel zu viele in Thailand gibt. Die Preise für Lebensmittel, Unterkunft und Restaurants Besuche sind spürbar teurer als auf andere Inseln der Umgebung, trotzdem kann man hier einen günstigen Aufenthalt verbringen.
- Mermaid Boutique & Café: Hier kann man shoppen und gleichzeitig ein wunderbares Frühstück genießen. Die Smoothiebowls sind liebevoll angerichtet und die Sandwiches super lecker. Die nette Besitzerin gibt sich sehr viel Mühe, damit man sich hier sehr wohl fühlt.
- Bang Bao Home: Am Weg zum Bang Bao Beach liegt das liebevoll gestaltete Restaurant. Hier kann ich die Currys, Suppen und das Pad Thai sehr empfehlen.
- Hidden Gem by Monkey Bar: In dieser coolen Location am Bang Bao Beach sollte jeder Kho Kood Besucher einen Drink zu sich nehmen und die tolle Aussicht auf das offene Meer genießen.
- The Fisherman Hut Kho Kood: Ein Restaurant mit tollen Gastgebern und guter Live Musik. Empfehlenswert ist hier auf jeden Fall der „grilled Barracuda“.
- Nomkhon Station: Dieses kleine gemütliche Café bietet einige süße Verführungen und köstlichen Kaffee an.
Strände & Ausflüge
- Ao Tapao Beach: Am längsten Strand der Insel liegen 5 Resorts. Am südlichen Ende ist dieser unbebaut und naturbelassen und bietet einen tollen hellen flachabfallenden Sandstrand und glasklares Wasser.
Bangbao Beach: Der feine Traumsandstrand ist flachabfallend, daher muss man weiter raus, um schwimmen zu können. Ein Besuch des Strandes ist auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert.
- Ao Klong Chao Beach: An diesem schönen Strand reihen sich einige hochwertige Hotels. Der helle Sandstrand fällt flach ins Meer ab und eignet sich daher auch für Familien sehr gut. Mein Tipp: Einen Cocktail in der „SeaBar@Peterpan“ am Ende des Strandes schlürfen.
- Klong Chao Wasserfall: Ein Highlight ist auf jeden Fall der Besuch des „Klong Chao Waterfall“ (Eintritt: freiwillige Spende). Dieser ist einfach mit dem Roller zu erreichen, allerdings muss man die letzten paar Meter zu Fuß gehen. Mein Tipp: Badesachen nicht vergessen! Perfekte Abkühlung in der Mittagshitze. Bis zur Fallkante des Wasserfalls schwimmen und sich das Wasser auf den Rücken plätschern lassen.
