Eine Insel mit vielen Facetten
Leider konnte mich Phuket nach meinen dritten Besuchen noch immer nicht ganz überzeugen. Es liegt an dem Massentourismus, der mich jedes Mal aufs neue abschreckt. Wenn man in Thailand schon ein paar Inseln zum Vergleich hat, fällt es einem schwer, dass auf Phuket der Funke überspringt.
Anreise & Verkehrsmittel
Anreise per Flugzeug von fast allen Thailändischen Airports aus möglich. Viele verschiedene Fernbusanbieter bieten die Strecke Bangkok – Phuket kostengünstig zwischen € 7 und € 20 an. Vom Festland ist die Insel über eine Brücke erreichbar. Auf Phuket selbst, gibt es viele Möglichkeiten von A nach B zu kommen. Die gängigsten Fortbewegungsmitteln sind Roller, Taxi und Tuk-tuk. Achtung! Taxi und Tuk-tuk Mafia, entweder Preis vorab gut verhandeln oder auf den Taximeter bestehen! Die günstigste Variante vom Flughafen an die beliebtesten Urlaubsstrände zu kommen ist der SMARTBUS. Dieser fährt vom Norden bis in den Süden an der Westküste entlang. Das Ticket kostet egal wo du aussteigst 100 Baht (ca. 3 €).
Sightseeing & Ausflüge
- Big Buddha: Eine atemberaubende 45 Meter hohe, aus jade-marmor gefertigte Buddha-Statue, thront auf einem Hügel im Süden Phukets. Von hier aus wird einem ein toller Blick auf die Chalong Bucht gewährt, der am Abend zum Sonnenuntergang wohl am schönsten ist.
- Patong Beach: Auf diesem ca. drei Kilometer langer Sandstrand gibt es jegliche Art von Entertainment. Daher ist dieser nicht für Ruhesuchende geieignet. Der Partyhotspot bietet viele Shoppingmöglichkeiten und ist durch zahllose Bier- und Gogobars für seine weniger nette Seite bekannt. Diese befinden sich konzentriert auf einer großen Vergnügungsmeile, der sogenannten Bangla Road, auf der einige merkwürdige Shows und Angebote unterbreitet werden. Hier ist auch der Sextourismus allgegenwärtig, für den Thailand leider auch bekannt ist.
- Karon Beach: Sehr langer, breiter, flachabfallender Sandstrand. Der Ort Karon bietet viele Restaurants und Shoppingmöglichkeiten und tolle Hotels. Jedoch liegen diese alle an eine viel befahrenen Straße vom Strand getrennt. Dadurch kaum Palmen und Bäume vorhanden sind, gibt es keinen natürlichen Schatten und ein Sonnenschirm ist empfehlenswert.
- Kata Noi Beach: Ein tolle und etwas kleinere Strandbucht mit hellem Sand an der Südwestseite Phukets.
- Promthep Cape: Sonnenuntergang am südlichsten Ende der Insel ist ein Muss für jeden der nach Phuket kommt.
- Phuket Town: Die nette Altstadt bietet eine Vielzahl an gemütlichen Cafés und Bars. In 1-2 Tagen hat man alle Highlights in und rund um Phuket Town gesehen. Mein Tipp: eine Besuch im Vegan Table Restaurant. Hier bekommt man die leckersten Veganen Gerichte die ich bis jetzt in Thailand gegessen habe.
Unterbringung
Auf der gesamten Insel gibt es schöne Strände und tolle Hotels. Hier meine persönlichen Hoteltipps:
- Andaman White Beach Hotel: Ruhig gelegen in einer eigenen kleinen Bucht, sehr gute Küche
- Katathani Phuket Beach Resort: Toller Strand und schönes Hotel. Hier am besten Meerblick buchen
- The Shore at Katathani Resort: Luxuriöse Villen am Hügel gelegen und direkt am schönen Kata Noi Beach
- Blu Monkey Hub Phuket: günstiges und modernes Hotel in zentraler Lage von Phuket Town.
- Holiday Inn Phuket: Zentrale Lage in Patong mit schöner Poolanlage, nur wenige Schritte vom Strand entfernt.
Wer als Familie mit Kindern reist, dem empfehle ich die Strände rund um Khao Lak am Festland. Hier gibt es tolle Strände, schöne familienfreundliche Hotels und vor allem läuft hier alles etwas ruhiger und entspannter ab als auf Phuket.
Restaurants & Shopping
Etliche Restaurants, Garküchen und Märkte findet man hier in jedem Ort. Auch am Strand entlang und in den hochwertigen Hotels gibt es tolle Möglichkeiten zu speisen. Unzählige Geschäfte und Malls zum Shoppen gibt es an den Hauptstränden Patong, Karon, Kata und in Phuket Town.
