Die Perle Thailands, viel mehr als nur Fullmoon Party!
In diese Insel hab ich mich auf den ersten Blick komplett verliebt. Klein aber fein beschreibt das Eiland wohl am besten. In Gegensatz zu Koh Samui wurde diese Insel vom Over-Tourismus noch verschont. Außer einmal im Monat, da verwandelt sich die ruhige Insel zu einem Party-Hotspot. Allerdings konzentriert sich dieses Festival hauptsächlich im Süden der Insel am Haad Rin Beach. Der Rest des Monats ist ruhig und relaxed. Von wunderschönen Stränden mit gemütlichen Bars bis hin zu hügeligen Landschaften und tollen Restaurants, bietet die Insel alles.
Anreise & Verkehrsmittel
Mehrmals täglich gibt es Inlandsflüge nach Koh Samui (USM) oder Surathani (URT), danach geht es mit Bus und Fähre nach Koh Phangan. Meistens sind die Flüge nach Surtahani am Festland günstiger. Der Airport auf Koh Samui ist ein Privatflughafen, auf dem hauptsächlich nur Bangkok Airways eine Landeerlaubnis hat. Die Anreise vom Festland ist um einiges länger, da man mit dem Kombiticket (am Flughafen problemlos erhältlich) als erstes mit dem Bus zum Hafen und dann mit der Fähre weiterfährt. Dauer je nach Anbieter zwischen 2 – 4 Stunden und die Kosten liegen zwischen € 14 – € 30 pro Person. Von Koh Samui dauert die Fährüberfahrt nur ca. 30 – 90 Minuten. Auf Koh Phangan kommt man am besten mit dem Roller von A nach B, immerhin hat Koh Phangan eine sehr übersichtliche Größe: eine Länge von ca. 18 km und einer Breite von ca. 12 km.
Sightseeing & Ausflüge
- Thong Nai Pan Beach: Etwas abgelegen, aber sehr empfehlenswert. Einer der schönsten Strände der Insel. Auf der Zufahrtsstraße gibt es einige tolle Restaurants, Bars, einen Supermarkt und auch eine Apotheke. Mein Tipp: Unbedingt essen gehen in der „Street Food Mall“ und im „Restaurant Country E-Saan“.
- Koh Ma Beach: Bei Ebbe kann man auf der Sandbank entlang auf die kleine Insel Koh Ma spazieren. Ich habe hier im neuen „Koh Ma Beach Resort“ gewohnt, dass ich auch sehr empfehlen kann. Ruhiges Hotel direkt am Strand. Ein paar Restaurants und ein Supermarkt befinden sich direkt auf der Zufahrtsstraße. Am Abend empfehle ich den Besuch des Koh Ma View Point, um hier einen unvergesslichen Sonnenuntergang zu genießen.
- Haad Yao Beach: Der Sand auf den Malediven ist nicht heller und feiner als hier am Haad Yao Beach. Es gibt viele Bars und Restaurants direkt am Strand und auch an der Hauptstraße. Auch Vegetarier und Veganer werden hier überall problemlos fündig. Hippiefeeling gibt es überall, denn viele Yogis haben sich dort angesiedelt. Dieser Strand wird mich in Zukunft sicher noch öfters sehen.
- Malibu Beach: Sehr beliebt bei Kitesurfern, sehr flachabfallend und schönes klares Wasser. Leider viele Sandflöhe und etwas dreckig.
- Haad Rin Beach: Einmal im Monat zu Vollmond gibt es die berüchtigte Fullmoon Party. Hier herrscht am Strand und deren Umgebung totaler Ausnahmezustand. In dieser Nacht treffen sich tausende Partywütige um an dem eigentlich sehr idyllischen Strand bis in die frühen Morgenstunden zu feiern. Für das Festival werden unzählige Bars und Bühnen am ganzen Strand entlang aufgebaut. Diese Party hat wenig mit der ansonst sehr ruhigen Insel zu tun, aber falls man doch zufällig über Vollmond hier ist, muss man dieses Spektakel mal erlebt haben.
- Rin Nai Beach: Ein wirklich schöner Strand mit sehr ruhigem Gewässer und Blick auf Koh Samui. Ein cooles modernes Hotel „The Cabin Resort“ mit schönen Strandabschnitt liegt am Ende des Strandes und ladet auf jeden Fall für ein paar entspannte Tage ein.
Unterbringung
Ich finde die beste Lage ist rund um den Koh Ma Beach und dem Haad Yao Beach. Hier hat man Ruhe, ist aber trotzdem nicht weit weg vom Schuss. Die Anfahrt dauert zum Thong Nai Pan Beach zwar etwas länger, aber dort seine Unterkunft zu buchen ist auf keinen Fall ein Fehler. Von Luxushotel bis hin zu sehr günstigen und gemütlichen Bungalows und privaten Appartements wird alles angeboten.

- Hotel Buri Rasa Village Koh Phangan: Tolles Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis an einem wunderschönen Strand.
- Hotel Anantara Rasananda: Luxus pur in ruhiger Lage direkt am Traumstrand.
- Hotel Santhiya Koh Phangan: Luxushotel mit prächtigen Villen mit atemberaubender Aussicht.
- Hotel Cookies Salad Beach: ein tolles Hotel in bester Lage um die Insel zu erkunden.
- Hotel Cabin Beach Resort: stylisches Hotel an einem ruihgen Strand.
Restaurants & Shopping
Zum Shoppen am besten nach Thongsala oder am Haad Rin Beach fahren. Hier reihen sich viele Shops und Boutiquen nacheinander. Restaurants findet man so gut wie überall, sei es am Strand oder irgendwo im nirgendwo neben den Straßen. Mein Tipp: Eine tolle Location für einen Sundowner ist die „420 Club“ nähe Koh Ma Beach.
